So much happened in 2022. My brain literally hurts when I try to wrap my mind around it all. How did all that fit in one year?
Anyway, one of the cool projects I got to work on was my collaboration with Kobalt Music Group and Dawn Richard. As you may know, Dawn is a music icon who has continued to level up in the industry since her days with Danity Kane and Diddy’s Dirty Money crew over a decade ago. And Kobalt is a global independent rights management and music publishing company with artists like The Weeknd, Koffee, Childish Gambino, Moses Sumney, Paul McCartney and Dawn on their roster.

Keen on exploring how new tech can foster collaboration and create novel ways of audience engagement, Kobalt got curious about NFTs and wondered how they could leverage them to create meaningful engagement. Their idea was to connect a musician on their roster with a blockchain savvy visual artist, create digitally collectible artwork based on that musician’s lyrics and then mint the work on the Ethereum blockchain.
Working with Dawn was smooth. We have similar visual interests and aesthetic sensibilities so she trusted me to capture the essence of the lyrics without much fuss. Below is the triptych titled An Electro Revival, which we ended up creating together:
